Despite being landlocked, Phoenix is home to a number of popular Japanese restaurants with high quality sushi. It’s not always necessary to pay top dollar if you know where to look. We’ve therefore listed our favorite Japanese restaurants with great happy hour deals below!

It's the Summer Solstice! Celebrate and come get another one of flavorful rolls - The Rising Sun! ☀ Spicy tuna, avocado, cucumber inside topped with yellowtail, mango sauce, flying fish caviar and crisp jalapeño chips! #sushi101 #tempe #tempeeats #summerfood #summersolstice #herecomesthesun
We recently featured Sushi 101 on our site due to the menu’s wide selection of vegetarian-friendly sushi rolls and meals. (Although even carnivores should try the Sweet Potato Roll!) They deserve a spot on this list as well for their great happy hour selection.
While the norm for most restaurants is to have a handful of discounted items to choose from, Sushi 101’s entire menu is available at reduced rates for happy hour. This makes it easy to try a variety of appetizers and rolls without breaking the bank. Their yellowtail (Hamachi) is consistently fresh- we especially recommend the sashimi or any of the rolls featuring this tasty fish.
Sushi 101 is a popular choice for Tempe locals and students at ASU due to its convenient location on Rural and University. Tempe Improv Comedy Theatre is also on the same corner, so patrons often stop by for happy hour before heading to a show.

Happy Hour: Daily 3-7pm, 9pm- close
We’re excited to feature Sushiholic on our site for the first time! While Arcadia is home to many of Phoenix’s best dining spots, it can be easy to miss Sushiholic when driving by. The unassuming restaurant shares a strip mall with an urgent care center and a few small shops. Once inside, though, guests are sure to appreciate the clean and quaint atmosphere.
It’s actually difficult to miss happy hour at Sushiholic! Regular happy hour takes place daily from 2pm-8pm, and reverse happy hour lasts from 8pm to close. During this time most rolls and appetizers are in the $4 to $5 range. Beer and wine are also around $5, while the majority of mixed drinks are $7. It can be hard to satisfy late-night sushi cravings, so we appreciate that the restaurant closes at midnight daily.
The Phoenix New Times gives Sushiholic’s happy hour an “A-“ grade, and we agree with this high score. We also agree that the full menu has some additional tasty items, it’s better to order exclusively from the happy hour menu.
Good food? Yes! Reasonable prices? Yes! Are we Sushiholics? YES!

Reverse Happy Hour: 8pm-Close
Sushi Bros is a first for our site as well! The restaurant is even more unassuming than Sushiholic, as it’s wedged between a loan center and liquor store in a strip mall. We’re learning not to judge a book by its cover, as Sushi Bros is an excellent find for happy hour in the West Valley!
Guests in the mood for standard sushi rolls will be pleased to find out that happy hour lasts all day at Sushi Bros. Popular rolls such as spicy tuna and shrimp tempura are included and range from $4 to $6. The full menu also offers reasonable prices for specialty rolls.
It’s worth mentioning that Sushi Bros offers great lunch specials as well. Guests can pick two rolls for $9 or choose from a variety of bowls or bentos.
Finally, while the strip mall location isn’t necessarily the best, one upside is that the nearest light rail stop is just a 2 minute walk from the restaurant.

Happy Hour: All Day
Yen Sushi and Sake Bar
Originally from Los Angeles, Yen Sushi and Sake Bar has become a popular sushi spot in Glendale. The atmosphere is simultaneously cozy and swanky, and the sushi and udon entrees are fresh and delicious. We also have to mention the generous amounts of fish included in the sushi rolls.
Yen Sushi has an especially popular reverse happy hour from 8pm to close. The restaurant has been featured on Foursquare, New Times, and other Arizona publications as a result. During happy hour, guests can expect to enjoy sushi rolls and sake bombers in the $5 range. There is a decent selection of sake options, and the matchais great for those in the mood for tea instead.
It’s important to note that while my experiences here have been positive, Yen occasionally receives negative reviews for poor service. Let’s hope this isn’t the norm and that it continues to be a favorite for Glendale residents!

Moto is a trendy Japanese Fusion restaurant off of 16thStreet and Glendale in Phoenix. The Chef originally owned Shogun Express in the same location before deciding to upgrade to Moto’s more upscale fare.
The restaurant boasts a fun atmosphere, due in part to the creative naming of the menu items. Patrons can enjoy “Stoner Bowls” and “Señorita Rolls,” for example. Moto itself is a cross between the Japanese word for “origin” and the Chef’s passion for motorcycles. According to the menu, the restaurant is “all about levity- the treatment of a serious matter with humor or lack of reverence.”
Moto is especially popular for its happy hour. Classic rolls range from $4 to $6, while more special rolls and sashimi are $8. Appetizers such as spring rolls, Asian nachos, and calamari are discounted for happy hour as well. The “Definitely Not Sushi” happy hour menu includes drinks ranging from $4 to $8.
